Wireless Bridge?

I'm moving house soon (renting, hence unable to run cables) and the phone socket for Fibre is very helpfully located in a cupboard under the stairs, which means the router will be there too.

I have a server and a gaming PC that will be in an upstairs office, and other wireless devices dotted around the house. Currently the phone socket is in the office room of our current place so the router, PC and server are all connected with a 1GB switch.

I want to keep the server and PC connected together with a switch for high speed transfer, but the router is soon going to be elsewhere. Whats the best way of getting the internet connection onto the network? I was thinking of adding something wirless that plugs into the switch that connects to the Wifi of the router to get internet to the server and PC, and also allows access to the server from other wireless devices? I've got some home plugs but I've not had much luck with them so would like to avoid them if possible.

Just remembered I have a Netgear DGN1000 ADSL Router sat in a box. Could I use this to bridge the wired network to the wifi?

A 'wireless entertainment adapter' such as the TP-Link TL-WA890EA, or a router capable of operating in 'client mode' would be an easy way to connect the switch upstairs to the router downstairs. This approach is easier than creating a real bridge connection as all the configuration is at the client end.

Before you do anything I'd try the Powerline adapters. You may find that they work perfectly at the new house, even if they've caused problems before.
