I have 56k, well I hate it, because it keeps me from playing games online I want to & the guy that checks the signal came today. He checked all over, it is a low signal all over accept at the other end of the driveway about 500 feet away!!!!! The house is at the edge of the woods, plus there is a little hill & that plus the trees block the signal. The signal jumps over the hill, but doesn't come back down untill around the street. So is there anyway I can get it here? :(

could you possibly fit a wirless router at the `hotspot` then connect wirelessly to that?is it on your property where the guy got the signal, can you get power to that point?high gain antennas on both the router and the pc should work too
just a thought :)

Not sure, I thought about the router thing. How much would those antinnas be (US)?

i bought a 9db antenna for about £20 about 18 months ago
i suppose it may be possible to put the wireless `box` at the hotsot and if it has a lan connection run a cat5 cable up to the house, but maybe 500 feet is a bit far for cat5...not sure about that mate

I would suggest a directional high gain antenna - this has more 'umph' than omnidirectionals. For that kind of distance, I'd say definitely an outdoor with a good 9dB + gain.

If not, then a wireless router run with 90m (approx 300ft) of Cat6 cable (I believe this is max length recommended) along with a high gain antenna.

In dollars, do you mean? The antenna would probably be about $40-50 or the other option more so but with a probable better range.
