Okay, had a wireless card for a while now, and over the past 4 months it has occasionaly started acting weird (seeing the network but not connecting to it). I found this could often be fixed by reseating the card, however since March it's been happening about once a week, and it's getting pretty annoying, earlier I nearly snapped the card in half I was so annoyed (internet cut out 3/4 through a 1.2GB download).

I'm guessing the problem is with the card itself, however I guess it could also be the PCI slot... If it is the card, then could anyone recommend a new one that's fairly cheap?

Edit: Forgot to add that currently I'm running off an ethernet cable to make sure the download finishes, but for some reason the download speed is 1/2 what I was getting with the wireless card, any explanations for that?

Wired to wireless discrepancy... Would help to know where the download is coming from. If it's from the internet there could be 100s of possible infuencing factors. Would also be nice to know what speed we're talking about.

Pretty much any wifi card now days will work "ok". Though usually it's best not to go for the absolute cheapest and often a good idea to go for one from the same brand as your router/AP to be compatible with any preprietry features.

"losing the router" sounds symptomatic of interference, worth checking what else is out there and or changing the channel your wifi runs on. It's possible someone has fired up a new network in range on the same channel and you're getting overlap.
