Wireless card or Long Ethernet lead ?

consider wifi and only then if no online gaming will ever happen on that particular system.

Why? Wireless only adds 0.5ms over Ethernet and you'll be restricted by your internet connection anyway, not that online gaming uses that much bandwidth anyway..

Loads of hate for wireless here. I've got to say, with my Asus RT-66U router taking over from the Superhub, wireless is pretty good in terms of both speed and reliability (especially at 5GHz).

I'm not allowed to run cable from the living room to the study as the carpets are bound to look a bit shabbier after lifting them up. If I was in student accommodation I wouldn't be so bothered, but in my own home and with newly laid carpets, I'm too scared to touch them so wireless it is.

Are you gaming?

Having some nightmare problems with my wireless, when playing CS:GO i get random lag spikes, for the life of me can't find why though!

No I'm not. It's a reasonable question, but then OP never mentioned that as a requirement.

If I was a hardcore online gamer I'd run ethernet by hook or by crook.

Have an ethernet cable trail across the floor (no carpets) but it's noticeably quicker in terms of latency
