Des anyone know of a PCI wireless card that supports master (Access Point) mode?

I havent been able to find one that specifies it does yet :(

Or alternativley a tool that will force the wireless card I have to act as one (if its possible)

No I can do Ad-Hoc now, some cards can be put into master mode from what ive read and then act as an access point.

Then other wireless devices can connect to it in infatsructure mode rather than Ad-hoc.

The asus motherboard ive just bought should have had onboard wireless that had this feature but now its arrived it looks like its an optional extra

My Netgear WN121T Wireless adaptor says access point (infatsructure)

No, he means the card will act as a software Access point.

I think mainly Atheros based cards can do this, but the company that developed the SoftAP, so it is called, no longer is in business (or something) so support has pretty much been dropped. I know the Abit AirPace Wifi (PCIe x1) card has this feature though.

I think Ralink also released a chipset with this capability (on the ASUS cards) but I'm not sure which ones exactly support this.

Don't think you will find an internal one anymore - OCUK used to stock them a couple of years back to go with the Asus motherboards such as you want.

I would suggest you look for an external one such as http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=12&l2=41&l3=0&l4=0&model=1710&modelmenu=1

Access Point, Ethernet Adapter, Gateway and Universal Repeater all in one.

I've got an older version I use here and its pretty good although mines only a ethernet / WAP version. Good thing about it is you don't need PC drivers so you can just plug it into the ethernet port and the PC behaves like its still using a wired connection , powered off the mains or USB as well. Been using it as my main WAP for a couple of years now and have had no problems

EDIT

Bit more searching , think this is what you might be looking for http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=12&l2=42&l3=0&model=50&modelmenu=1

Lthough i don't know if its a current model or not but at least you have a model number to look for now

As smids says many of the atheros cards will do this.

I have a tplink 650g and sold a dlink g520 on the mm a while back. Both function as access points in Linux with the madwifi driver & hostap.

I'm not sure if it's possible to do this in Windows though.

Thanks for the help & links guys, ive downloaded the ASUS softAP and it seems to have spotted my card (which is a TPlink).

I havent tried setting it up yet but if I have no joy im gonna get the Abit AirPace I think.
