I have a 5.1 sound setup currently based on a Pioneer amp and Monitor audio speaker setup.
I am using 2 fronts, 2 surrounds, a centre and a subwoofer.

I was wondering if I could add 2 rears, the amp supports it, by some sort of wireless method. A quick search has not revealed a clear solution, I wondered if it was feasible?

I cannot run wire to where they are without an awful lot of work, if I can add some sort of wireless transmitter to the amp, plus an amplified receiver to the rear speakers I would be happy.

Any ideas/links?

Any wireless solution would require powered speakers/amp so you'd end up needing to run power cables...
That why I never bought any wireless rear speakers..

Always found it easier and less hassle to feed just some thin speaker cables then it was to feed power cables.
Unless you have a plug socket near each speaker I don't see the point in having wireless ones..

Kef used to sell this http://kef.com/html/en/innovation/wireless/index.html nut don't any more.

The issue with 'wireless speakers' as pointed out they need a lot of wires ; A transmitter with power and sound at the 'amp' end, speaker cable from the speakers to the 'receiver' end that is also plugged in. That receiver also has to have a pretty high quality amp if its going to match the sound quality of a decent 5.1 amp. Then you've got to try and avoid any interfence from other radio waves in the area - the end result was the kef system was around £500 if i remember, and it wasn't perfect.

There were other systems that 'did' the same thing cheaper such as by rockfish but it had a cheap amp and got interference.

You could 'put something together' yourself using a bluetooth audio transmitter / receiver and a 2 channel amp if your AVR has pre outs, but there is a reason that by and large people don't do it!

Why are you able to run speaker cable to L&R Surrounds but not to the rear?

The amp and other players are in a cubby hole built in to a free standing fireplace. The free standing fireplace is just for show, but during finishing wires were run out from it through boxwork which I intended to be able to run fresh wiring through as and when necessary. When first done I only anticipated 5.1 sound, 7.1 was not up for consideration or I would have run extras at the time. When plastering over the top the builder cocked up and blocked the runs so the high quality wire I have in place is it now.
I cant run fresh wire out of the fireplace, I need a wireless solution to transmit the signal out. Power and wiring from the receiver to the speakers at the back wall is fine, I just cant run wire out of the free standing fireplace to get to the speakers.
