Hey =D

I have recently experienced a problem with my wireless connectivity and wondered if anyone could shed any light on it.

Basically I have a laptop for work which has a integrated wireless card, I think its the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG from memory. It operates probably 2/3 metres from the router and everything has been working fine for months. However, recently I have been unable to send/receive files across my network from/to that laptop. When sending files the estimated time will shoot up to 100's of minutes and will more often than not fail. It is the same when accessing the internet, downloading a file will cycle between moderate speeds to nothing at all. The network icon tells me that the signal is excellent, which is should be! but the connection speed will rise from 54 and down to 24mbps in a sort of cyclic pattern [rising and falling]??? To check that is not the router I have used other wireless computers [even 3 floors down] which experience no problems.

Obviously its integrated so if something is wrong with it i guess a new adapter is required?

Any help is kindly appreciated.

Probably just a driver issue, check for new drivers, if there isnt any just uninstall and reinstall the network card

Thanks for the reply J.B. but that was one of my earliest courses of action. All the drivers had been latest at the time and had worked fine for months. That is what leads me to believe it may be a hardware problem but im not sure since i dont know an awful lot about wireless devices and how they might fail.

Hi - have you got a PCMCIA (or whatever the initials are) to use instead - I found the intel card on my daughter's Dell inspiron was having problems and when I used a PC.. card all was OK?

Thanks for the suggestion mel, I think this is something I will have to try, I do have a PCMCIA adapter but unfortunately this laptop only has a express card slot so I think I will have to shell out for one, strangely I have only found one express card which is from belkin, other than that I guess I get one of the usb ones :S
