Recently my 54mbs Netgear router has been giving a very poor signal reception & a number of network drops. It is a good distance from my pc (down stairs & the other side of the house) but previously gave a reletively stable signal of about 24mbs, now it keeps bouncing between 1, 2 & 12 for the most part. I have done a complete router reboot which seemed to help for a bit but it has gone back to its old ways. If I were to get a 108mbs router, would this be likely to give me a good signal strength if placed where my old router currently is? I.e. if I keep my current wireless antenna thing which is a 54mbs one, would I be likely to get 54mbs being received, perhaps making it worth getting a better on to receive more of the signal strength. Or do you think this would be a waste of time as if only 24-36mbs was the best I was ever getting from my current router the new router would still only provide that much as well? Don't know if 108 routers push the signal harder so to speak.

Patience and the enter key for the win.

Nope. You might get some gain out of the pre-n kit and/or better aerials though.
