Hi all - I've just switched flats and I'm having trouble getting my connection up and running. I was previously with Virgin Media connecting using a Linksys Wireless-B usb adaptor, my new flat uses Eclipse. I am able to see the wireless network and claims I am connected, I can usually load about half a webpage before it drops out and does not reconnect.

The network is running PPPoA where as previously I don't think any encapsulation was used - think this could be anything to do with it? Is it possible my network adaptor doesn't support PPPoA?

Cheers.

Make sure the router can support 802.11b.

Try changing the wireless channel as well.

Otherwise I'm out of ideas on that.

Changed the channel a couple of times and the router claims to be operating in g & b - i can't live with this wire running the length of the flat!

check the timer for re-authentication. Check the signal strength and maybe MTU.

Probably the most sensible soultion would be to just go out and buy an 802.11g/n adapter. Mainly because although most routers support b they're designed for g, so the support for b is often half hearted and you're better off just using g.

Yeah, I kind of figured the root of the problem would just be this terrible usb adaptor, I'll try and rob a 802.11g off a mate and give it a go. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

First step should be working out what's broken - is it even the wireless, or some other issue with the router or ADSL connection?

My flatmates connections are fine and they're all on g, I'm also ok when I connect via a cable. All very suspicious. :)
