Wireless ethernet connection for smart TV-is it available?

I have done a search for this, but do not seem able to find the correct cabalistic Google incantation to find what I want.

I have an old "Smart" TV. It has an Ethernet socket, multiple USB but no WIFI.

I could run a network cable (I could also get the Panasonic WIFI card to go in the CI slot, but it seems to be stupidly expensive) but I would rather have a box that will sit behind the TV and will plug into the Ethernet socket and be powered (say) by the USB socket that will allow a WIFI connection to my hub.

Does such a thing exist??

Buy an Amazon Fire Stick (or similar)

Has built in WiFi, likely has better functionality, and runs over WiFi.

I THINK the USB power from your TV will be enough to run it. Otherwise it just takes up one more plug socket - not a massive deal.

To solve your actual issue you're probably easier simply looking for a powerline adapter to run Ethernet of your internal house wiring.

I don't usually recommend it but for enabling smart TV functionality you likely won't notice any difference.

The device you're looking for is called a bridge. You give the bridge details of your wifi network and it will have an ethernet cable out of the back of it into your TV. It will bridge the wireless and the TV so your TV will see the internet.

This is an expensive one that is good if you've got lots of wired devices in one place with high performance:

and this is a cheap as chips one for a single device:

You'll also find lots of routers can act as just a bridge if you have an old one lying around.

Having said all that, buy a Fire Stick or similar. Apps get updated more often than on TVs, its more flexible and it won't go End of Life so quickly.

If the 'Smart' features are anything like those on my Panasonic GT30 Plasma then it's hardly worth bothering. Mine has had an Ethernet connection since it was first installed and I don't think it's ever really been used.

The FireTV stick that's now plugged in gets used for everything (Prime Video, Netflix, Plex, TV Catch-up).
