Wireless extender question

Hi guys,

I recently installed a range extender for a family friend but they're still reporting issues. Basically the upstairs of their (Victorian) house had a very weak wifi signal and would constantly drop out and not be able to automatically reconnect on their devices. The wifi range extender's ssid (*****_ext) gives great signal upstairs but I suspect that they are still periodically connecting to the base routers wifi signal downstairs. Sure they could 'forget' either of the ssid's but isn't it the point of a wireless network to be seamless? Eg. they should be able to move through the property and connect to the network with the strongest signal

Are there any settings I can play with, any other thoughts?

You are after a seamless 'roaming' wifi experience... You will not get that with consumer grade gear.

You would have to look at higher grade kit e.g. Ubiquiti (not that expensive really) or similar.

In your current scenario, what you should do is setup the AP with the same SSID and password/encryption, then hope for the best... Although consumer grade kit aren't that great at it.

EDIT: To be honest, you would likely of been better off just buying 1x Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE access point. Stick it on the middle floor ceiling and seeing how that goes.
