Wireless fail (360)

Decided to move my Xbox from the living room up to my bedroom so I can play on it more often, this means going wireless sadly. Went and bought a 2nd hand one from a well known store and basically I get the light on the adapter flicker red ever so slightly then it stays off completely... presuming this means it's fudged and I have to take it back?

Anyone else had this and is there another solution other than geting a replacement?

I know this is unlikely, but you don't have an Ethernet cable plugged in doing nothing? as it will switch the wireless off.

Nah I don't. Was the first thing I checked.
