As title, my main rig connects to the BT home hub 5 and running speed test gets 20 down 17 up, same with wireless from THIS computer.

If I go on my laptop I get 75 down 20 up, what on Earth is going on with the main pc ? I Have no weird internet software running as far as I can tell, what am I looking for as the problem guys ?

What wireless card is the PC/laptop running? If the laptop is pretty new i'd guess its wireless N but the PC might only be wireless G if its a bit older.

The BT homehub 5 supports everything up to wireless ac

Main pc is running on board broadcom gigabit network adaptor connected at 1.0gb , its network is:

BT Home hub 5 --> gigabit switch --> PC

Latest network drivers, windows 8.1

Laptop is Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6235 connected at 300mbps

Are you certain that the network card is running at 1GB/s? You can change the speed it is configured to by going into the properties of your network adapter in device manager.

Just found time to work on this.

Ok in safe mode the speeds are similarly very slow.

The card is DEFO running at 1.0GB/s, I can transfer to my server at 100mb sec read/write.

Any ideas to this odd problem? :S

Ok finally got around to testing this, results are obvious!!

1) Server PC running off same gigabit switch as main pc:

2) Laptop running off same cable as main pc:

3) Main pc running off same cable as laptop just was:

CLEARLY its my main rig is the issue!

OK folks? what in the hell is wrong with it and how do I fix that ?

Just installed an Intel gigbit network controller and now internet speed is back to 75down 20 up............problem solved I guess, but NO IDEA why this would work, the old broadcom chip could transfer data at 100mb/sec on the local network so no idea why it couldnt cope with a 7.5mb/sec internet ?!

EDIT: Now I cannot connect to my server !!! says not available when it is !!! what the hells going on ?! lol

Ok weird thing, the router is listing my 'main pc' as the server pc in the mac address layout.........i.e. the network card USED to be in the server pc, but that has now changed and is in the main pc.................yet the 1 week old router is saying its still 'server pc' in the network layout........HOW ON EARTH?! - im sure network cards dont retain information? its a intel gigabit CT desktop adaptor

Have restarted the router (BT home hub 5.0a), same issue,

HALP!!!!!

Have you tried switching everything off at the same time and giving a few minutes?

Do you have any IP reservations set?

If you're still having problems it's worth seeing what arp -a at the command prompt tells you.

Will give it a go tomoz, done the arp-a command, only thing to note is that network 1 is 192.168.1.x and network 2 is 192.168.0.x and both have the same statics:

224.0.0.22
224.0.0.251
224.0.0.252
239.255.255.250
239.255.255.255

However this has been the case for 2 years now (one network is normal pc network, the other is the IP camera network) and worked fine to now :(

Ok I turned everything off and on again and ONLY put the main pc on, the home hub is still listing this MAC address as 'SERVERPC' when its NOT, how is it doing this ?

UPDATE: I FORCED the hub to change the main pc name and now its working, PHEW - weird
