Hi,

I want to ask a stupidish question?

Ive just bought a DG834N and a corresponding PCI card, to allow "n" communication. However my laptop has some generic card so Its "g".

So the question is does having "g" communication slow the "n" down ie make the router transmit at the slowest level, or is it clever and works independently.

I suspect each adapter communicates with the router independently.

cheers

Hi

With the Netgear pre N when i used it purely with a G card and the router set to the pre N for wireless the performance was rubbish I was getting speeds of about 12Mbps. I spoke to Netgear and the advise was if using G then change the router wirless to the b/g standards and not use N. When I did this worked fine but only at G speeds.

I have not used the router since but there have been several firmware updates since that may have resolved this but just be warned. You might nered to get the PCMCIA N card they do.
