Wireless hardware for wii

So I have a wired network on a decent router already set up at home but it doesn't support wireless, rather not change it.

Would adding a wireless access point to this work with the wii, just that every article I've read seems to have mentioned using a router or the DS dongle.

Anyways, if this'll work will someone kindly point me to an access point is known to be compatible (or would my wired router be the bigger part of the equation?).

If not I guess I'll have to swap out (in which case please point me to router(s) that are known to work or buy a long cable, usb ethernet adaptor and shove that in.

As the wireless access point would be used wii exclusively I'd rather it was as cheap as possible, but if I must get a wireless router I'd prefer it to be a good spec and have at least 4 wired ports.

Damn nintendo for making it harder than it needed to be.

You could just get the wired adapter for the Wii if you're struggling this much with wireless.

I use a Netgear Rangemax wireless access point; works fine with the Wii, although it doesn't seem to work well my DS after 10 mins fiddling trying to get Pro Evolution online.

So yes, a wireless access point works fine with an existing router for the Wii.

I had a Datel WiFi MAX before upgrading to a wireless ADSL modem.

Worked absolutely fine with the wii, only issue is PC has to be on to utilise online wii content. May or may not matter to you but I don't like leaving electronic stuff on when it isn't being used.

Both my Wii and my DS connect to the WRT54GL that I've got running dd-wrt, but I really, really hate that the DS can only connect to WEP and not WPA.

I saw that dd-wrt can be configured to use multiple SSIDs, so it's supposed to be possible to have one SSID configured for WEP (and heavily locked down in other ways) for the DS, and another SSID configured for WPA for a Wii and other devices on the WLAN.

When I get some free time I'm planning to test this.

EXACTLY !!!

My old trusty 3com does 3 laptops, wii, and another Desktop all through wifi without any glitches but the DS is too picky about it. I had to get a Netgear to get that to connect.

Couldn't you get the little official USB dongle thing for your PC to make it work?

could someone tell me how to set the wii up for wirless, cant seem to figure out what numbers i input using the rangemax really a first attempt at wireless
