I now have a good mic, so I've scrapped the idea of getting a gaming headset and am hoping I can get more bang for buck. The snag is that I still care about latency as its for gaming.

Does anyone have a recommendation for wireless cans for that purpose? And is wireless compression that bad?

I have had chair hs70 wireless and they were great, passed to my nephew as bought a set of Penrose x and they are amazing. But expensive and recommend them as can use on Xbox, PlayStation, Bluetooth as well

I'm looking for something long term, so I am happy up to around £200, but it seems like either you end up paying the gamer tax for a gaming headset and a mic I don't need, or you end up with Bluetooth headphones aimed at phone connection and with latency that's way too high for gaming.

I was considering the sennheiser rs175 for that purpose

External BT Receiver & Transmitter, has the APTX LL (Low Latency), connect to the PC, then you can use any APTX LL BT headphones with your PC :)
