For my needs they wouldnt NEED to be wireless its just convenient so thats what i was thinking of!
in all honesty i have £300 burning a hole in my pocket with nothing to spend it on.
So i figured some decent headphones might fill the buying void??
That makes it easier for me to reply then.
Don't go wireless. For that money you can get some very nice headphones indeed. I'll throw a couple of options:
Sennheiser 580/600 or 650. The first two a similar sounding, the later is quite different (better or worse is a matter of taste - I find the 650 to be a bit heavy on the bass, but it can be good for some music). Pretty demanding I heard (i.e. it is better with a good source), I wouldn't know since I only demoed them with the same gear.
Beyerdynamic DT880: Those can be found at a bargain price right now (I think around £130), but you are getting amazing sound for the money. It really is on par with the best of what other companies have to offer but cost less. However, it benefit a lot from a good source too. For gaming the DT770 has good reputations too.
Alessandro MS-2i (or MS-1 for a lot cheaper) or maybe the Grado SR60-225: The Alessandro are actually Grado cans modified/aimed at musicians. To be honest, I only had the chance to listen to Grado cans before (and now own one of them), but they are terribly priced in the UK. The MS-2i cost between $250-300 + shipping, whereas the SR-325i it is based on cost close to £300!
I should warn that the Grado/Alessandro range are not known for confort however. On the other hand, they are far easier to drive than the Beyer and Sennheiser: you get more of their potential straight out of the box.
I'll refrain from commenting cans from AKG and Audio-Technica. I've heard the AKG 501 which left me with a very positive impression and an 701 on my way. I've also heard the Audio-Technica ATH-A500 and I know both the ATH-A500 and A900 both have good reputations for gaming.
This post is really just skimming the surface.. It would help to know how much of your £300 you want to spend on headphones
And the equipment it'll be used on. But know that the serious products are interestingly all cabled.
The really nice thing about those high end headphone is.. They'll provide more details and, arguably SQ, that you'll get in speaker systems in the samce price range. Or a good bit higher.
Edit: And now I read your post again, I see the £100 limit.
Perhaps the Beyer DT770, Sennheiser HD580 or the Grado SR60? If you can stretch it though, the DT880 are seriously good value.
