As mentioned in another thread, I'm currently having massive issues with my wireless router. Its going extremely slowly

The speedtest also shows an issue, it normally runs at 10.1Mb/s or 2.5Mb/s depending on if I'm throttled or not, so there's deffinately something wrong. But I don't think its the internet connection itself. What can I try?

Ah, sorry, its a Belkin F5D8236 router. Its running the only firmware available for it, and its just gone past a year old.

Try changing wireless channels? Start down low: 3, 4 & 5 arent used as defaults on many routers.

There is a reason for this. Whilst you have 11 main channels, only 1, 6 and 11 dont overlap frequency wise. Most people stick to these 3 channels to avoid interference... but by that token, everyone is trying to use 3 channels!

If you use 2-5 you risk interference from both 1 and 6, 7-10 and you risk interference from 6 and 11 - it sucks!!!

Best think to do the survey the channels in your area with something like "inssider" and see what is the quietest channel and move to that one.

althought I've noticed you can now use channel 12 and 13 ?

Changing the channel seems to have fixed it, thanks! It was originally on 13, with 9 as an extension channel. Now its on 1 with 5 as the extension and seems to be back to normal. I think I'll look for a new router anyway though as I'd like to play around with firmwares, but I've got another thread for that. Cheers guys!
