Wireless help needed (for Virgin)

Currently on Virgin 4MB but may eventually go up to 20MB, just in case it matters a lot on which router I needed. One problem however is that an old laptop in the house doesn't have Wireless capabilities so I need some kind of adaptor that'll plug into the USB and let me use Wireless on that machine. I picked out two items, but don't know if they are what I need and could use either some help picking better items or confirmation that I have picked the right products and that they are decent ones at that.

Being rather dumb when it also comes to Wireless stuff, will this also let me network the machines so that data can be transfered from one machine to another or will that need something else?

They should do if you're on cable rather than ADSL. Don't worry about the fact the the connection is wireless, just think of it as an invisible wire and you'll see that of course the PCs can be networked.

Would choose the WRT54GL over the netgear.
