My friend has AOL. We installed the free Netgear Wireless router that AOL supplied. That works great. Now, we then fitted a USB Wireless adapter on her PC and that works great until she turns her PC off and then goes back on later. Nothing! No internet access. Wireless not working! We then have to re-install the USB adapter again. We have tried 2 adapters, BT and a Belkin one. Do you think it is because we should use a Netgear one?

Any help would be superb. Cheers

no something else is up with that system if your finding that you have to re-install the USB adapters. check the event viewer (start > control panel > administrative tools > event viewer) and see whether theres anything there with a red exclamation mark. you or your friend arent disconnecting it after shutting down the computer are you?

Ok, is the usb adaptor not being detected or is it losing the wireless connection?

Are you using WEP? WPA-PSK?

Are you using the Windows Wireless Configuration Utility or the software supplied with the adaptor?

Is the USB adapter still showing in the hardware manager after the machine is rebooted ?

When she powers off the machine does she unplug the USB adapter is she does then when the adapter is put back into the laptop is it going into the same USB port that it was connected to before ? If it is not then try doing it so the adapter is connected to the same port it was installed on.
