Right this is the situation. I've recently bought a new router to cater for our household wireless needs and the signal is perfect and it's an amazing bit of kit. Belkin F6D6230UK4 in case anyone was curious.
The problem that I have is that in my main computer I have an Edimax 7727in wireless N card, which is advertised as being 300mb. Now I find it a little strange that I can't get it to connect at full speed. Whilst on the other hand, my laptop which I didn't even know was wireless N capable until about 3hours ago has found the 5GHz wireless output and connected straight away at the full 300mbps. However if I do switch to the normal 2.4GHz waveband then the wireless tops out at 150mbps, same as my main computer.
The part I finding hard to understand is that it seems that a wireless card has to be N capable AND capable of transmitting on the 5GHz waveband to take full advantage of the 300mbps, but I don't believe my Edimax card is 5GHz capable or advertised as being so, so how can it be 300mbps capable, if that makes sense?
Also it seems that on my laptop there are a lot more options for the wireless adapter to do with N signal and 5GHz wavebands where as my main computer's doesn't.
Anyone able to explain what's going on here?
