im trying to connect a laptop to my works wireless.

  • the laptop detects the network.

  • ive entered the wep key.

  • the laptop says limited or no connectivity.

  • checked the ip and its in the wrong range.

  • inputted an ip, subnet mask and gateway details.

  • the connection now says its connected with excellent signal.

  • but i cant access anything, the interent doesnt work, i cant connect to the server. all ping efforts time out. its like its not on the network but it says it is

the network normally automatically allocates an ip via the dchp.

any ideas?

I had this problem.
The Internet was connected, but Webpages etc that needed the Internet did not work.
I sorted it by messing about with some Internet Explorer properties and the Internet then came through.

its not just the interent though. its everything

its definately not in the same IP range of your network.
Can you give me the ip settings of say your server, and what you put in for the laptop ?

Do you have a DHCP server on your network ? if no...why? if yes....what ranges is it set to dish out ?

Just because you've connected to the wireless access point doesnt mean that your connected to the network.
