I have an aluminum macbook and the wireless keeps cutting off.

Basically, the airport thing at the top says it is connected, but to actually load up web pages - it needs to be turned off then turned back on again for it to work. Its done it loads of times today...

Anyone have a guess at what the problem might be?

Im using a Netgear DG834N modem router, using a WPA encryption and have installed all the updates it tells me to. (dont know if the airport updates are seperate?) :)

Could try a firmware update for the router if avialable, you tried connecting without encryption?

Yeah they occasionally send out Airport updates, but they tend to cause more problems. Don't think there would be Airport updates for the Alu Macbook at the moment anyway so don't think that is the problem.

Hey, I read a review (which i cant find now for the life of me) for the new macbook. In the review they said the aluminium casing of the new unibody macbooks can be an issue with wireless causing drop outs and shorter wireless range. I'm afraid I cant tell you how reliable this info is however, if it is a problem this could be an answer.

From what you say the Wireless signal is not cutting off, but your ability to access the internet is.

When your connection fails can you access your routers set-up page from Safari on the laptop?

I have quite a few issues with the Wireless on my MacBook Aluminium. If i'm connected to a WPA wireless network and I close the lid, or put the MB into Standby, it will disconnect from the wireless and refuse to reconnect until I delete all the settings for the Airport and re-enter them. VERY annoying.

I've also found it really flaky with signal - it'll suddenly drop and disconnect, and need coaxing to get it back connected and transferring data again.

Not sure how to get around it, i'd just keep my fingers crossed for a patch for it at some point. :)

I'm currently having issues with my alu MB and my airport extreme, every 3 days or so the MB refuses to connect/load up webpages but everything else connected to the airport extreme is fine. The only remedy is to go through the airport extreme config util everytime it messes up :(

I also have atrange alu MB wireless problems. Whenever I have my iPhone or iPod Touch connected to the router then MB would have problems connecting. Switch iPhone Wi-Fi off and no more problems...

The only problem I had was that if I didn't have the ap on when I started up the macbook airport would fail to find my ap unless I restarted airport, from then on it was pretty solid.

I spent the other day sorting out a mates wireless problem, intermitent connection and dropouts, turned out it was a tv video sender and changing the channel on it sorted it!
