Hi,

I'm having terrible issues getting and maintaining a signal on my media PC in the living room.

I have a D-LINK DIR 301 upstairs in the front room, maybe 4 metres away from the PC but the signal on the PC is intermitant.
I'm using the DLINK dongle, that came with the wireless router, on an USB extension cable, so there's nothing in between the two other than the ceiling.
I am getting 2-4 bars (very rarely 4) for signal and when trying to actually connect to the network it usually loses it before it's fully connected.
I've also tried a Linksys WMP54G wireless-g adapter but to no avail.

Strange thing is my girlfriend Acer 5050 laptop picks up the signal with full 54MB/s and 5 bars, even when further away from the router.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? An tips or advice? I've tried some of the more simple stuff from google (positioning etc) but it's no help.

Check for drivers, I never like d-link personally. Also, bit of a long shot but the wireless adapter might be set to a different region and using different set of channels, check the software
