Wireless KB & mouse for gaming ?

I know it's always been frowned upon, but this day and age, does it make any real difference?

I mean look at the PS3 and 360, one using bluetooth and the other 2.4hz wireless for their controllers. Don't see anyone complaining over there.

So in reality unless youre making a living from playing video games professionally, does it really matter?

Who here uses wireless KB's and mice for their gaming?
 
I used to, I'm only a casual gamer these days so it wasn't a problem. Although I'm currently using wired I would not have an issue going back to wireless seeing as I have cables everywhere at the moment.
 
I used to use a wireless mouse, but changing the batteries became tiresome.

I have no time for unnecessary inconveniences.

These new logitech unified mice and KB are supposed to run on the same batteries for 2+yrs

Which is why I'm saying now, does it really matter these days.. I don't think the .01 millisec is going to make a whole lot of difference to 99% of the gamerbase, do you?
 
I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. My keyboard is the solar powered Logitech K750 so I never have to change the batteries and I change the batteries in my M570 mouse about once a year and I have never change the batteries in my M705...yet (after a year it still says half battery).

People really should get with the times. Yes a wireless keyboard/mouse may not reach very far (it depends on where the receiver is and what is in the way) but they sure as hell go further than a wired one and more freedom and a cleaner desk. Wireless technology is so much better now...that said I wouldn't trust anyone other than Logitech with wireless peripherals. The unified reciever is my favourite computer invention of all time. I can have two mice and a keyboard only taking up one USB port and setting them up is as simple as turning them on and clicking a button in setpoint.

Still love my logitech G7 Mouse which is nearly 5 years old. I do need to swap the battery daily, but its a 10 second job as its a cartridge.
 
I use one of the above logitech K750 solar panel keyboards so never have to worry about batteries or it running out, Its not cheap but its really cool and a really nice keyboard to use.
 
I've been using wireless mice and keyboards for years, never really had an issue. Some people will say that the batteries will run out mid-game, but if they do that's your own fault for ignoring the various low battery warnings in the first place; there's no reason for them to die whilst you're using them.

I imagine cheap ones will be more likely to lag a bit or suffer interference, but I've had a couple of the top-end Logitech sets and they've been great.
 
I used a wireless mouse once before and had a response issue or shall I say lag with it, though this was years ago, so I'm sure they are much better now. Still, I would always choose a wired one over mobile.

These are analogue devices though so the difference wouldn't be as noticeable though surely? As in, a snap move on a stick/trigger in a movement from 0 to +90 to 0 where 90 is usually a rotational camera speed but on wired PC stuff like moving a mouse 1 CM is moving the camera at the velocity of the mouse movement.

I'm not sure of the delay in current generation controllers but I'd speculate it's more than keyboard/mouse alone due to pollrate and the odd wifi packet resend.
 
used to have a wireless mouse, terrible.......................lag, sometimes didnt pick up the signals, got a mx518 now(wired obviously), awesome mouse.

still got a wireless keyboard, thats fine though to be honest.
 
Bought the K750 the other week and it's been brilliant.
Had no problems with latency. It is quite expensive but I managed to get it with 30% off and when they were giving away a free mouse, so in the end I probably got it for £35-£40 essentially.
Never need to change the battery either, I've always forgot to turn it off, and everytime I've checked, it's never gone under 100% battery.

Hoping to get a G700 one day, when it goes on offer or something.
 
As the OP, I will say I think I'm done with wired devices after playing around with the new Logitech unified wireless devices.

Being particularly fussy with any type of lag, and having tried wirless KB's and mice in the past, to quickly return to wired. I think they've finally got it sorted. At least Logitech have!

I purchased an M510 mouse and so far, can't fault it. It seems to be 100% lag free to me, or if there is some, I certainly cant notice it.

A month ago I would have said, yeah yeah, guy doesn't know what he's talking about, knowing how fussy I am with such things. But coming to the realisation that the consoles have made it perfect, why can't the periphial market do so also, and gave it another try.. Low and behold they have got it nailed.
 
I also bought a K750 at the start of the year and it's just great, best keyboard I've used in over 15 years of PC gaming.

Is it specific for gaming? It doesn't have silly flashy lights (don't start me on "I need it to play in the dark") and it doesn't have a display screen mounted on it, but who actually looks at their keyboard whilst gaming? I prefer looking at the screen personally.

I'll be looking at the Logitech unifying device mice soon, great bit of kit.
 
I used a logitech MX1000 with the same, non removable, battery for about 6 years without problem - until I broke it :D

I loved that mouse :'(
 
I've got a logitech k750 which is great 99% of the time but it seems that there are moments when I'm gaming (tf2, bf3) and the keys will become unresponsive :(

I'm considering selling it on and buying a sidewinder x4 to get the job done.
 
Unless wires bother you why would you change?

Wireless works fine and I couldn't even tell that it was wireless most of the time but when the batteries died (no battery can last forever) it was annoying, I don't even notice that the wires are there when using my mouse/keyboard so I would much prefer that over worrying about charging/replacing batteries
