hi

most of the wireless keyboards and mice I have seen need batteries to run, is there such a thing as keyboards and mice that take their power from the pc

stops me having to change batterys so often

cheers

so you want a wireless mouse and keyboard with wires that connect to the PC?

you can get mice with recharging docks (not sure if thats off pc or needs to be plugged in), but no such thing for keyboards as far as i know.

I got set a long time back... Made by Trust it is... I still got it, its in the very same conditions as it was the day I bought it.

The Mouse uses 2xAAA and the Keyboard uses 2xAA and the charger I have can take all 4 at the same time!

This I suppose could be a solution, and just use rechargeable batteries.

Now, I myself bought a mercury Keyboard / Mouse setup and in 2 days I went through the duracells and decided that Im not willing to accept that and I gasve it to my wifes dad... Who ended up dumping it in the bin in under a week too!

I got the trust mentioned up there and its no better... Eats batteries for brekkie.

I then decided to get better quality ones and I got a Logitec Wireless Mouse that cost me £39 a whiel back and thats just as bad... Waste of money.

Since then I have come to realise that a good quality set that does not eat through betteries simply does not exist... Mine have wires on, and have done for a while now.

there are no wireless keyboards and mice that do not require batteries to run, some have build in rechargable batteries which you have a set, ie 1 will recharge while you use the other, then you switch. in the case of my G7, i can change the batt in about 3 seconds. + it tells you the level, so you dont ever run out during times of importance.

about wireless transmission of energy, you can transmit energy to power a mouse, or keyboard via several methods, however this doesnt exist and you would have to build it yourself, however i am certain that if you do, apple, MS, logitech etc will give you millions for your invention.

you might want to look into evanescent wave coupling (Karalis et. al 2007) if you have prior knowledge in quantum theory, if the device would require 1-2 watts or so you could probably go with RF

I use an MS wireless laser mouse 8000, which lasts about a week before it needs recharging (it has a dock and only takes a couple of hours) and an Apple wireless keyboard, the old skool full keyset one, also lasts ages. Both use bluetooth and get my vote. :)
