Hi folks, i've been using a Thomson 330 modem ever since i switched from dial-up to broadband internet, i'm toying with the idea of buying a wireless router....Mainly because 'Her indoors' wants to browse the internet as well!:D

So i have a desktop rig and the wife has a laptop, so am i correct in assuming that i need a wireless router and two 'Dongles' to get up and running?

What modems do you guys recommend? i will need a router that supports Windows 7, the Thomson 330 doesn't have drivers that support win' 7 (Yet..)

I'm with Orange, i used this speedcheck service....http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/

And this is the result i got....2248 Kbps Download 494 Kbps Upload

Thanks in advance.;)

Please don't crosspost. An RTM asking someone to move this thread would have been plenty.

Any ADSL router will work with whatever OS you throw at it. It's the dongles you'll need drivers for.

Unless her laptop is from the dark ages it'll have wireless built in. And your desktop should have an ethernet interface, allowing you to connect directly to the router. That just leaves you needing an ADSL modem/router.

As the guys have said - if you're PC is still going to be next to the router - just use a good old network cable to plug it in! Also, yeh unless her laptop is really old that should have wireless in. Just look up the model number on the bottom of it and google it if you're not sure.

Cheers guys, yes the laptop is wireless, i've certainly got an ethernet port, now what does the panel recommend as to the make and model of router?
