Does anyone know of a wireless N adsl router that allows you to keep the internet username and password blank?? Also if it had gigabit ethernet that would be a billy bonus but not essential.
I did have a Linksys WAG160N but it wouldn't allow me to leave the username and password blank so I got rid of it which means I'm stuck with a good old bog standard Speedtouch provided by my ISP here in Cyprus.

Thanks in advance.

The Netgear DG834N definitely doesn't need a username and password. Worst case, can you not just plug in any old jibberish?

No I tried just typing in any old gibberish and it wouldn't connect.
I used to have a DG834N and got rid of it for the Linksys. Had loads of problems with it and went through 3 replacments from Netgear including the original one I bought.

Sounds like your ISP's doing something odd - the DG834N I've got here works fine and I can get away with feeding Be any old rubbish. They don't care what username/password I use.

Like I said I'm in Cyprus so my ISP CytaNet doesn't require a username and password at the ADSL point I have to go to the ISP's website and login there.

So as I said, your ISP are doing something odd. The example I gave was another ISP who don't care about username/password - I wasn't saying anything about where you were or the weird ISP you were using...

Fair enough but out here weird is the norm. Like for ADSL you sort of paya double charge, one charge for them to give you access at a certain speed and then another charge for them actually providing the speed. Plus its well expensive. Including line rental I'm paying about £60 a month for 2mb broadband.

What was wrong with the DG834N anyroad - it's possible they want you to use the Speedtouch, and most other routers will behave unpredicatbly.

Yeah what was wrong with your DG834N? I'm on my second and that is completely dead now and in-accessible and it is going back to netgear soon. Gonna get a diff router next, not dealing with one of those again.

The main prob with mine (beofre it died) was the ethernet connections would just stop working every now and then (2 - 3 times a day) and it become a joke.

My DG834N would just stop working, I'd lose connection and it would be unaccessible. Sometime it would tka me rebooting it and resetting it several times before I could get into it, it was a complete nightmare which is why I got rid of it for the Linksys after my third DG834N from netgear.

The WAG160N supports no username / password - RFC 1483 Bridged

?

Using one here on 02, works fine

Everytime I tried to leave either blank and click save I would get an error message saying I can't leave them blank. I even phoned they're technical support who confirmed that neither can be left blank.

you don't have to leave the login detail fields blank,

you select RFC 1483 Bridge Mode from the drop down menu, this then removes the username / password box entirely (which is present if you choose PPPoA for example)

i can provide a screenie if it helps :)

PS the linksys is also a good piece of kit

Damn it. If only I had asked about this before I decided to sell it, bloody typical. Might have to have a little looksy see if I can pic one up cheap and I agree it is a good piece of kit, better than the DG834N.
