Ive been told before that for example in a Wireless 54G network when a device thats 11Mbps B comes in and connects to the router/access point device it will downgrade the speed for all users including the 54G users even if their devices are capable of higher. Is this also the same case for Wireless N

For example a Wireless N Router/Modem has one user with Wireless N Card capable of 270mbps(or whatever the speed may be) but say 2 other users in the same house using 54G Wireless Cards, would this downgrade the whole network to 54G speeds only for everyone ?

I think the answer to your question is basically yes.

As I understand it, if you connect a 54G device to a network capable of 300N (as my home wi-fi network is) to whole lot drops to 54G, sadly.

:( i didnt want to have to go paying for another 2 N Wireless devices when all i care about is mine being at N speeds. okay, im not gonna bother for now then :)

[I thought it didnt change it for everyone, on my G network I have one B adapter and it doesnt seem to effect anyone else, although I may go and check now

I was told this by a Cisco Engineer at work. Now im assuming that if this is the case for £300 quid Cisco Access Points im guessing you're run of the mill £50 home Router/Modem is going to be doing the same.

I was simply wondering if this was the same in Wireless N or if they had somehow got around it.
