Hi,
I'm looking at buying a new wireless card for my PC.
I'm moving into a new house next year ( out of uni soon ), and will no doubt have a wireless network running. I got frustrated last time waiting for the internet, and i'm placing an order now from OCUK anyway so might aswel put a wifi card on too.

I was wondering,.. if I get one of these ( look like the latest )

Will it work on all wifi networks? I don't know yet if we will have wireless g... wirelss a or whatever they are called ( I don't know much about networking, you may have gathered ).

Also, at uni I am just out of reach of the wifi zone which provides better internet access than the ethernet cables in the wall ( stuff isn't blocked all the time on wifi ). Will it be likely to make me be able to reach that? ( When I say just out of reach, that's measured using my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with the standard wifi that comes in that ).

Thanks

Steve

Best way i have found to make wireless go a long way is to buy a usb wireless dongle, buy a long tub of pringles, cut a hole in the side of it, stick the dongle through it and attach it to a reasonably long usb cable then point it in the direction of the router!

The signal comes out of the pringles tin in a straight line rather than in a ball ;)

Scientific really ;)
Have a search on 'Cantenna' and 'Wokfi' for more examples and the actual scientific theory behind this.

I try to avoid using wireless as much as possible but you'd be surprised how effective the 'Cantenna' thing works.

Like in my room (which is a loft), with just the dongle i can pick maybe 2 connections, with the pringles can maybe 10 or so just by pointing it in different directions.

Worth a try, plus you get some Pringles to munch on :D
