The network is 802.11g (there is a Linksys wireless router in the house connected to a cable modem). Should you have any trouble with the wireless there is also an RJ45 cable in the TV cabinet so you can plug into the LAN connection directly (on the floor near the master bedroom door in the family room).

so what do you recommend?

the slot is on the side of my laptop and is the width and length of a credit card.

Sounds like your OK to go with any of the above suggestions. May be worth checking what type of wireless security they use, if any, and make sure you get a card that can handle their security type.

thanks for the suggestion, ill drop him another email to check this

That doesn't mean a great deal - what type is it (or what model is your laptop, and someone can look)?

The network is setup to use "WPA Pre-Shared Key" security. This is widely supported by most network cards so you shouldn't have a problem. Generally Windows knows the security type being announced by the network and will just prompt you for the security key when you first connect to the network, All you then need to do it type in the magic number from the document I sent in my previous email. Your PC should remember this and connect automatically from then on.

still need to dig out the manual and find out what kind of slot it is lol
