Hi there,

I've just moved house and my router isn't anywhere near where I'm going to have my desktop PC, so hardwiring isn't an option.

I am a bit torn between one of the following three options ;

  • Wireless - Ethernet Bridge - I believe that these exist, and could probably hook my xbox to it too (providing it doesn't do anything silly with port forwarding etc)

  • USB WiFi Dongle - like the sound of this as it will keep the innards of my PC clear for cooling etc, though would only want one if I can use the standard windows wifi tool to manage it and not a rubbish oem app.

  • Wireless PCI Card. - Would this be better than a USB Wifi dongle? Not overly keen due to the impact it may have on airflow within my case, but if it performs better than USB then I'd go for it.

What are your opinions on these options, and do you have any recommendations on specific hardware to go for.
Cheers

PS. Anything I install into or onto my PC needs to be Vista/7 x64 compliant

Internal wifi cards are pretty small and cheap and wouldn't flood your USB bandwidth. USB solutions are great for temporary connections. Most USB will operate through windows without addiotional software, mine does and it's some cheap thing off the e auction site.

You need to think about antenna though. Many USB solutions don't have external hookup, which you may need.

I don't know much about the bridge option but it would probably add additional latency but may be easier to setup.

Hope this helps.
