Hi, I have 2 laptops setup on a wireless network using a linksys WRT54GS.

Now today i turned on my PS3 for the 1st time in ages, tried to sign in and it wouldnt. This somehow stopped the laptops from going on the internet.

On the network connection screen it says it was connected and strenght was very good for both laptops, yet couldnt sign into msn and no web pages would come on.

So i held down the reset button (think its the reset button) and it is no longer using our network name and showing as linksys unsecured.

using ip 192.168.1.1 to try and secure the network again, its coming up with authentication required. enter username and password. Completely forgot this information,

how do i get around this?

cheers in advance

You've reset the router to factory defaults, password may be printed on the back or it will be in the manual, if not try admin and password or leave it blank.

Once in you'll need to reset all your wireless settings to include security etc etc, unless you have a backup of the router configuration and can load that.

downloaded the guide. it says leave user blank and password admin.

tried this,.

am i being stupid trying to set this up o nthe wireless laptop or does this have to be set up directly connected to the router?

cheers

You either are failing to get the correct username password entered (capslock?) or the router requires you be connected via ethernet (not in my experience) or the router is faulty.

Out of the three the first is most likely in my experience, try accessing it from a different browser or pc.

yeah i think im going to try and connect by ethernet tomorrow. the computer that the router is connected to had a password put on it in the bios. for the life of me i cant remember it. took out the cmos batt for 30 mins earlier but the password was still there?????

anyway i have left it out all night and hopefully the password will be gone tomorrow.

Why do you need to know the pc's BIOS password to access the router? You should be opening a browser and pointing it at the default gateway address (which is what you implied you were doing in your original post), usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254, there is zero reason to enter the pc's BIOS.

yeah was doing on my laptop upstairs. im going to do it on the desktop pc once i can get past the password stage. if i cant will have to connect the laptop to the router to see if that helps.

found my linksys box and tried to use the cd to install it on the laptop but still didnt work.

i dont get why the router was still giving a connection but couldnt connect to the internet when i turned on the ps3

ive even found a reset switch at the back that is supposed to clear all info from the router but when i type in the ip address and the password screen come up, it still has my name above username and this space should be blank.

someone on the linksys community forums has the same problem but not had an adequate answer yet

There is only one reset button, it will be on the back and will require a pen or something small to be pressed as it will be recessed behind a small hole.

When you say it still has your name above the username do you mean it is in a non editable box or can you just delete it and use the default login credentials?
