Wireless Network Problems using Airport

Not sure whether this should go in this forum but anyway. I have just moved into a new student house and they already have wireless internet set up. I am using an Airport Extreme card on my Powermac. The problem is the connection to the internet keeps coming and going, it will work fine for like 10 mins then go and I have to turn Airport off and on again.

There is a WPA PSK encryption set up with a shared pass key. Also they have set up the DHCP client thing where by each person is given a specific IP address.

When I first got here I could not connect but after turning WPA off it worked fine but for everyone else (all windows users) it was on and off. I then put the WPA back on and added myself to the DHCP client list and I could then connect but I now have the problem with the connection to the internet coming and going. My signal is fine pretty much full all the time.

So you guys got any idea whats going on? Is it my Mac not liking the WPA encryption? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

It may be a firmware issue with your Airport card. Theres a firmware update here
Also what version of Mac OS you using? X.3? X.4?

That firmware update is for the Airport Express audio thing you plug into the wall not my Airport Extreme card. I am running OS 10.4.7 with the latest Airport updates.

It does not make a difference if Interface Robustness is on or off.

Any ideas? :(

The wireless on my Macbook Pro had been working fine for ages, then this last week started doing exactly as you described, and I had to turn it off and on again to get it to work.

Just yesterday I did a check for software updates and found one for my airport. Since installing that it seems to work fine again. The only thing I can think of is that in the last week or so my Macbook downloaded an update that messed up the wireless, and the new update is a fix for that.

Anyway, point is do a check for software updates and see if there's an update that might help you.

I just recently downloaded an Airport update but the same problem occured before and after the update. Its really starting to nark me off!

The router is a D-Link one if that helps, dunno how good they are with macs.
