Wireless network range

Hi chaps, my first post here so please be gentle ;)

After much tweaking I've finally managed to get my Netgear Router up and running on vista 64 and it works fine for the PC it is connected to.

The problem lies when I'm trying to network between two PCs in the house that are quite far apart and on seperate floors. I have one of these as an adapter on the other computer and it seems like it's not within range. I plan to try the adapter PC a little closer first to ensure it is a range issue and not anything else. (Having it closer wouldn't be a long term solution however).

What I'm asking is - if it is purely a range issue how can I remedy it? Are there recommended signal boosters that I could use a median point that wouldn't require an additional PC etc?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Cheers for the replies guys, I have since tried it closer and do get in range. I'm confident I've set everything up properly however internet explorer won't load =(

I need to make sure this is purely a range issue before buying an AP, any ideas?

Is the PC getting an IP address? Is the router set to DHCP?

PC seems to be getting an IP address yeah, USB adapter PC is set as a trsuted wireless station in the access list.

DHCP is on.

I'm at a loss =/

enable net bios on the pcs connected to your router then use dhcp assigned IP addresses instead of manual ones to get the first connection going

Right, sorry to be a pain but how exactly do I do that James?
I'm a bit new to all this wireless networking malarchy, cheers.

Can anyone give me a pointer how to do this please? :)

PS - The pc connected to the router directly I assume you mean?
