Hi all,

I have just installed a wrt54gl wireless router and have updated the firmware to DDRT. Anyway, at the moment i have my main pc (where I do business) connected directly via cable to the router. I plan to connect my spare pc via wireless for pleasure/games etc.

Am i right in saying that it would be extremly hard for any 'hacker' to get into the main pc?

I have not got a clue about security so was just wondering what I should be using. Also, we live outside the city in a quit area and the nearest road is aropx. 150 -200 meters away. Would you say i am still at risk?

Kind regards,

I said the same a few weeks back, apparently people were always sat at the bottom of my drive leeching with their directional antennas.

However, you have DDRT, so I can't be of much help on setting up security, visit the site and look for a guide or something?

Main thing is when setting up wireless ( I use tomato, no idea on DDRT)
look here for info

Make a SSID ( thats the name of your wireless) deflat is Linksys / name of router maker. I try to not use one that people will know whos house it is with my clients. ie not 144 house road, or last name of client.

Then set a secure key up. dont use WPA/WEP imho, they can be hacked.
use WPA2-personal, can set to tkip/aes as well then chose a PW, I use a hex one myself. But as long as you use mixed numbers and letters you will be fine.

Also change the default router PW too ( when you log into the router)
