I have 3 Network devices in the house, these are:-

A Toshiba Tecra Laptop 1.86Ghz Centrino, with Intel Pro Wireless 54Mbps Wireless NIC. (Running XP Pro).

A 2.8Ghz Desktop, with a New 108Mbps Wireless PC Network Card. (Running XP Pro).

My Work Laptop (Sony Vaio) Brand new, with Intel Pro 3945ABG Wireless NIC (Running Vista Enterprise).

My Question is, I got Sky Broadband Max Yesterday, and was not to happy with the network speed from the first 2 machines mentioned (and even today), only get upto 5Mbps download.

My New Laptop (Sony Vaio), gets a massive 12Mbps.

Can anyone explain why? Is this a PC performance Bottleneck? Drivers? O/S?

I appreciate that I need to get 108Mbps Card for my Laptop, but should the others be that slow?

Cheers

WHat speed are you syncing at on the Sky broadband ?

When you say yo are getting 12Mbps are you talking throughput or are you talking about wireless signal speed indicated ?

What are you using to test the speed ?

Have you tried using a wired connection ?

If I do a a test on Speedtest.net on my other machines, I now get about 8mbps maximum.

On my Sony I Get over 12mbps.

Even If I do one after the other.
