Wireless networking ARGH!

I hope that I'm being thick here and someone can help.

I bought a Billion 5200G + dongle and a SMC generic dongle. I have set up the wired network/adsl fine, and I can get the SMC dongle to work on either machine, but the Billion dongle does not want to work. It detects the wireless network but will not connect. I have tried using the windows zero config and the billion wireless setup and neither work. The only thing that I can see that is strange is the ip address of the billion dongle which is something like 169.254.1.69. I have tried setting it manually to 192.168.1.7 but still no show. To make things simple I have the network set to open and no encryption to remove that layer of issues.

I've run out of ideas, and I can't see why the dongle that comes with the router will not play. I suppose that I could just be unlucky, but it seems unlikely.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Is there any MAC address restriction on the router?

It isn't strange. The machine didn't get an IP from the router, so it uses the autoconfiguration range.
