I've had my wireless network working for 3 months and now it decides to pack up, I called AOL went through 5 different Indians, fiddled with strange settings and currently have the router connected through an ethernet cable. I tried setting up the wireless adapter again by unplugging it and reinstalling the software. I says the signal is 100% and connects but as before it cannot acquire an IP address so it says limited or no connectivity.

The router is NETGEAR DG834PN
The adapter is NETGEAR WPN311

Hmm so DHCP seems to work fine on the wired side but not the wireless.
Alternatively, have you manually set the IP on the wired interface? DHCP may just be disabled on the router.

To verify it is a DHCP/Lack of DHCP issue, try manually setting the IP address, netmask, and gateway of the wireless adaptor (in the windows network control panel area) to the following:

IP: 192.168.1.3
Netmask/Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway / Default router: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 192.168.1.1

Then reconnect using the wifi card app shown in the second screenie and see if everything works.
If not, you should at least be able to go to http://192.168.1.1 in a web browser and see the router config pages.

I can access 192.168.0.1 through my router, and now i have the windows wireless icon saying that everything is ok but it has sent 14884 packets and received none, I'm trying to figure out which is broken, my adapter or the router, I cant think its any of the settings as it just suddenly stopped working

So you can access 192.168.0.1 from the laptop or am I missunderstanding?

EDIT: I'm sorry, was dealing with two similar threads when I wrote the last post, I meant xxx.xxx.0.x not xxx.xxx.1.x in all above settings.
:P

In your 2nd image, it shows that you have WEP selected, but does not look like any key is entered, I dont have a netgear wireless adapter so not sure if it is meant to look at that.

Take off the wireless security and see if you can connect that way, if so, create a new key in the router and enter the same in the wireless adapter.

have u set up either a wep Key or a wpa ket in the router first ?, take a look using "mine" http://192.168.0.1 WPA-PSK Security Encryption or WEP enter a your password ie 5 figures" numbers or letters" and write that down, then put that same info in the WPN311 then save profile then apply, the task bar were the clock is should show the wifi searching and should lock, if not take the WPN311 to the router a couple a feet away say then do the same...

right I tired letting windows manage the wireless instead of the netgear software and its half worked, I'm typing no thru my wireless but everytime I for to a new website or page a dial up connection box appears and when I click connect it wont connect ? I'm very confused

Open the control panel
Double click on Internet Options
Click on the connections tab

and then click on never dial a connection.

Click on Apply

Then click on LAN settings.

Make sure all the tick boxes are unticked.

Click OK and then OK again, then give it another go.

cheers did a reset and everything is fine now, just using windows zero whatever its called instead of the netgear software, seems a little slow tho :(
