Wireless or Wired server for 1080p mkv smooth playback ?

Just wondering whats the best way around this, I was planning on building a small decent rigg and adding WHS on it, packed with all my noisy hdds and 720/1080p mkv content.

I also have a Netgear 834 N modem/router up to 280mpb, so it says hd streaming feature is there, has anyone streamed 1080p mkv content wirelessly and is it running smooth on say the laptop or pc in another room ?

Or another option was to get power ethernet plugs the ones that are rated for like 200Mbps Powerline Adapter, would this allow me to play my 1080p mkvs smooth ?

My main concern is to avoid choppy/pausing playback of hd content if I go the Server route for my storage/downloads.

thx

Wired gigabit would be best without question. Second to that a Fully Switched 100mbit network. IF you can run a cable, do so.
While wireless and homeplug have the bandwidth to do it, a. The bandwidth is shared among all devices using it so you need to implement some decent QoS to prevent other data streams interrupting your playback. This usually means buying business grade kit.
b. Wifi and powerline share the transmission medium with other signals and devices so there's more to potentially interfere with the stream and cause interruption. Probably the most common is microwave ovens, some microwaves seem to have the ability to bring a wifi network crashing to it's knees when used.
That's not to say it won't work, but if you can run a cable it's a lot safer than buying decent wifi kit setting it all up then realising you can't watch movies while someone makes nachos.

Your video files are also probably encoded with a variable bitrate, which means that your bandwidth requirements will spike during scenes with a lot of activity. Wired would be the best route if it's feasible.
