Wireless PCI Adapter

This may seem like a strange request, but i need someone to recommend me a wireless PCI adapter which definitely works with a Gigabyte 965P DS3.

The last one I bought didn't work as it wasn't compatible with the motherboards PCI v2.3 slots. I ended up giving it away and now i've lost the USB adapter that i bought to replace it whilst moving.

I found the USB adapter pretty unreliable so would like a PCI one instead.

Thanks :)

hmm strange one.

I also have the same motherboard (rev 1.0 latest F12 bios) and up until recently i was using a cisco pci wireless adapter with the motherboard. Worked perfectly fine with my netgear wireless router, never dropped a connection etc etc.

I did a clean reinstall of windows about 6 weeks ago and since then the same pci card will not work at all. No matter which drivers, updates, chipsets drivers etc etc, it fails to find the hardware (pci card) in any of the 3 pci slots.

I have also had to default to a usb wireless adapter which is ok but does have its moments being a bit flakey!!

Was considering getting hold of a another Pci card but now not sure.

Slime - do you want me to send you the card i used (pci cisco wireless) to use and see if it works in your computer?? Just as a test??

That's a very generous offer booyaka. I've never actually tried anything else in the PCI slots but when it happened i did a bit of reading around and loads of other people were reporting similar things with different PCI cards.

My old DS3 has actually since blown up so i've had it replaced although i'm not sure if it's a new revision (if there is one). I might try using the original network card (it's now in my girlfriends computer) to see if it works. I'll let you know if i have any luck and get back to you about the cisco card if that's ok?

Cheers loads mate ;)

not a problem buddy, lmk and we can arrange something

Right, i've managed to get the PC to recognise a couple of different wireless PCI adapters so that's not an issue now.

I've run into another problem though whereby the PC in the lounge cannot pickup a signal from the router at the end of the hallway. I've tried 2 different wireless adapters. The Belkin one i got yesterday did pick up a very slight signal but it kept dropping in and out and the Sweex wireless adapter doesn't pick up a signal whatsoever.

The distance between router and adapter can't be any bigger than 15 metres and is on the same floor as I live in a flat. Both are pretty shoddy adapters but I expect them both to be able to pick up a signal, right?

Any ideas? Thanks

I wish it was, i've managed to get my PC to get a signal if i move it just outside the lounge which suggests that something is interfering with the wireless signal but it's incredibly unreliable. One minute it will work and the next it won't. I think the PCI slots are still not agreeing with anything as I tried another computer with the same card in the exact same spot and it seems to work ok.

Think i'll have to try my luck at another USB adapter. Not the end of the world but just a bit annoying!
