Wireless printer & laptop... Do I need a router?

If I have a wireless printer, and a latop with built in wireless... Do I need a router to connect the two?

Yes, you need a wireless mid point device (Access Point, Router).

Check the manual to see if it allows ad hoc connections. Cant see a reason why it wouldnt but I imagine it will come down to software on the printer.

Yes, this first sorry. Some model printers support this too. You should be able to set this up via the web gui.
