Can anyone recomend a wireless printer?
I'm after something that can sit in a room by itself and I can then print off pages from 3 other computers which are all wireless.
The printer I have at the moment has a network connection on it and usb. Am i able to convert this to wireless by using a USB dongle or something?

Not with a USB dongle, but you could use a wireless bridge into the ethernet port?
like this?

Host the image somewhere yourself rather than hotlinking from the original site - Davey

so would i just link with CAT 5 between the printer and the bridge and it should work honky dory?

haha ok sorry...

is that what i'm looking for...?

What type of printer do you want? Canon iP5200rs have wifi and ethernet.
Idealy i'd like to use the one i've already got...its got Ethernet port on it...so I was thinking connecting that to the bridge directly and then the bridge would be accessed wirelessly from any PC and therefore any PC can print from it? Am i right in saying the bridge itself will therefore have an IP address or what?

Have you got a wireless router or anything?
Yes, I've got a D-link wireless router and I've got 3 PC's which are connected to the router via Wireless USB dongle's. So wanting the Printer to be accessed by all PC's

You'll want an access point, which will connect as a client to the router.
isnt that what the bridge does though? is there not an access point I can get which will connect straight to the printer and therefore able to be accessed wirelessly by anything?

Sort of. Different manufacturers have confused things by using different names for things which are essentially the same. I would view a Bridge as something that joins two wired networks together wirelessly.

Im not quite sure what you suggesting in the second point.
I'm just wondering if i need to buy both (a bridge and a access point) or just the bridge.

i'm thinking it would go something like this;

access point > Bridge > Printer

right?

so the reason the access point is there is because it has an IP address and lets me access the printer right? See, thats where I thought the bridge was coming in...if it doesnt have an IP then how could i access it without the access point (i'm thinking then the access point would be needed)

I essentially just want to get the printer "on the network" the cheapest way possible.
