Hey all.

I'm trying to set my PS3 up so it can share my internet connection and stream media wirelessly.

This is the hardware im using...

- PC
- PS3
- Netgear modem/router (non-wireless)
- Netgear wireless WG311 card

Basically im trying to get my PS3 to connect to my wireless network card, aswell as trying to get my wireless network card to become a bridge so to speak to my modem so the PS3 can share my internet connection, but i can't get anything to work lol.

My wireless card picks up a wireless connection in my area (not my own) and the PS3 picks up the same connection, but they dont seem to be able to see each other.

Is there a definative guide to setting all this up or am i going totally the wrong way about it? :(

I've tried using the netgear smart wizard aswell as trying to set everything up via windows, both via ad-hoc and any other connectiuon type i could find with no luck.

Have you got you SSID set to broadcast, If you dont the PS3 wont see it.

You can enable it to broadcast in your router setup, should be under 192.168.0.1 in your browser give it a name if you haven't already and enable broadcast. While you are there make a note of your secruity code it's normally WEP or WPA you will need this to allow your PS3 to connect to the network. All that is on the wireless settings tab.

Now on the PS3 you need to go to Settings-Network settings, enable internet connection. Then go to Internet connection settings. And follow this.
CUSTOM-WIRELESS-SCAN(find your SSID)-DONT CHANGE IT'S NAME-SELECT THE SECURITY YOU SET UP ON THE ROUTER-ENTER THE CODE-AUTO-DO NOT SET-AUTO-AUTO-DO NOT USE-ENABLE-TEST CONNECTION.

To share your media you need to enable media server connection in network settings. And on media player you need to TOOLS-OPTIONS-LIBRARY-TICK THE BOX SHARE MY MEDIA THEN OK.

That should be it. IMO sharing media on the PS3 wirelessly is a bit slow.

You need to make an Ad-Hoc wireless connection on the PC, share you internet connection and then get the PS3 to connect to the created wireless connection.

But good luck, I hate Windows networking.

Thanks for the replies.

As stated, my modem isn't wireless, so there are no SSID settings when i go to 192.168.0.1 and as far as im aware there isn't a similar page to change those settings with my wireless card.

I've tried setting this up via windows and via the netgear smart wizard thing, but i can't find an option with either to "broadcast" and i think thats half my problem, cause all my card can do at the moment is pickup other access points.

Im 100% sure my security code is correct aswell.

I think i need a step by step guide on this, cause none of it is sinking in. (Yes i tried google, but couldn't find anything of value)

You need to do the Home Networking setup in Windows, doing that you can select which modem is for your internet connection and which one is for you home network.

After that you need to go into options or properties of the wireless card and Add a network yourself, you need to set the SSID manually and select if you want WEP or WPA protection but this connection has to be an Ad-Hoc connection so the PS3 can pick up that network and connect to it.
