Hello,

I've just got BT Infinty installed, hitting around 37/40meg. The router is in my front room, I am trying to send the signal directly upstairs. My current adapter is crap.

My question is what's the best way to obtain best signal/speed?
Wireless card? Power lines?

Depends on your gear and your building. If you're using the BT-supplied router, that'll be a problem. If your flat's old and made of stone/brick/thick concrete, that'll be another problem. If your building has old electrical wiring, that might rule out powerline adapters. ;)

Generally getting WiFi between floors shouldn't be a problem with decent equipment though. I'm using a Linksys E3000 router with WUSB600N adapters through medium-thickness stone walls and it works pretty well. The most reliable solution will always be ethernet cables up the stairs/through the floor, though.

It is the bt infinity router. Why do I need the router and the modem? Can I not replace it with one?

The house is 10 year old, so the wires would be fine, I hope. I don't fancy drilling through the floor to run a cable up.

I've had great success with power line adaptors, I put them in my in-laws house and they haven't missed a beat in 12 months, they use them for PC connectivity and their smart TV is wired using one.

These look good, and provide a wireless N extension too.

How far away is the computer going to be from the wireless hub? Really, you should be able to do one floor easily by wireless, and speed will be fine. If necessary, get a new wireless adapter for your computer. Don't know how good the BT supplied wireless hub is, but I'd imagine it'd be up to the job.

Rgds
