just plug them in and it picks up the wireless signal from the access point , you configure them the same way you do your router (i would think)

woah, hang on a minute there sunshine

so it does not need to be plugged into the router.

so i can have the router down stairs.

and the extender upstairs, and it will boost the signal to the pc in the backroom?

The XE102 connects to your existing home router, while the WGX102 can then be plugged into any existing electrical outlet, and create an area of wireless access. Now, users can have wireless access at any point in their home, whether the pool house, patio, or upstairs bedroom.

I had problems with signal so just bought two high gain antennas, one for the router and one for the PC. It went from no signal strength at all to full strength at full speed. That was with a pair of cheap antennas too. If you get a couple of half decent high gain antennas placed in the correct place, it should make a massive difference. It'll be a hell of a lot cheaper too.
