Hey

I'm trying to connect a few computers to my network, and my xbox - none have wireless, so I figure it may be cheaper to bridge the network wirelessly than buy an xbox wireless dongle and two wireless cards. I don't care about extending the range of the wireless, coverage is more than ample, I just need to be able to connect ethernet devices: I'm using my macbook to bridge at the moment, but it's no good long term.

What I've got:
Netgear DG834GT
Linksys WRT54G
Belkin F5D8633-4

All with stock firmware, although I can flash them to others if necessary - I know the top two have fairly popular firmware projects? I notice there are some access points on OcUK which support range extending I can buy one or more of them if necessary - it's £40 just for the xbox adapter, so a couple wouldn't break the bank. Can I get by with what I've got, or what do I need?

Cheers

Have you considered using Powerline Adaptors? They are far more efficient than any wireless network and can be had for as little as £25.
I recently bought some of these so I didn't have to set up a wireless network and they've far surpassed my expectations.

I did consider it - I figured a decent access point would be more versatile though if I wanted to use it as a range extender, and if I'm going to need a switch at the far end anyway, I'm losing a power socket at each end - they're at something of a premium. To which end, does it work on an extension cord?

Similarly, is it guaranteed to work? I know where I'm at with WiFi, I've never tried powerline so it's an unknown area.
