Are you wanting to create a WiFi network from a wired internet connection or turn a WiFi network into a wired internet connection?

If it’s the latter, TP-Link make a WiFi extender which has a LAN output port and can be configured to be a wireless adaptor. TP-Link RE450.

Gosh haven't used wifi extenders for 20 years lol

They still come in handy when you just want to add WiFi coverage in an extra room in old stone houses, especially with the poor WiFi connectivity that Orange fibre modems offer (think Virgin SH3, but worse).

I only found out that the RE450 could do that when a mate wanted to use his 2012-ish smart TV which only has a LAN port in his workshop which has good WiFi service.

But aps need a wire from the router
What I need is to pickup the WiFi signal which is strong enough but turn it into a wired connection so I can connect into a device

Then as recommended in another comment ( #3 ) , easiest/cheapest option is an extender. Does exactly what you want, receives a wireless signal then an ethernet port for whatever device you want to connect it to.

Thanks people

For the re450 as example do we need to configure first on thr tp link app or something for it to be what I need?

Bit late to the party, but something like the GL-iNet Slate/Opal/Beryl models will do what you want when running in AP mode. LTT recently reviewed one favourably and Jake went into some depth demonstrating the features. Good WiFi performance. Not used one personally and apparently they just close-sourced their firmware (important to some) but their firmware's built upon OpenWRT.
