I know the video is a "mickey take" in as much as it's designed to look old, but does using an ethernet cable and a phone actually work in creating a wireless receiver? He goes on to improve the signal using a salad bowl\foil which I know does work (along with other methods such as pringle cans) so.. does the first??

I could see how it COULD (maybe ) be used to boost the signal if you used the cable as an antenna. Just wrapping a network cable round a phone and sticking the end in your ethernet port wont do much will it... if however you connected the wire to the antenna port on your wireless card then maybe the phone signal could somehow boost the gain on the antenna wire? id have to try it to see if anything happens. Gut feeling says no.
