Guys, just moved into a new place and hooked up with a 10meg Virgin cable connection. Due to the location of the modem though, I need a wireless router to connect my PC which is in my room at the other end of the flat.

I've never dabbled with wireless before though and want to know if a standard 54Mbps router will restrict the max theoretical download speed of my 10Meg line.

I've managed to max my line speed when using wired connections in the past, and I appreciated this isn't always possible, but will a 54Mbps router be able to handle this too with a 10meg line? Or do I need to look into a 108/300Mbps one?

Cheers

Well your internet is 10Mbps, the router is 54Mbps...there is 44Mbps space left. ;)

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure, and knowing my luck I'd gamble it then be stuck!

The PC is going to be located through a number of walls and about 30ft from the router, should I be looking at routers with increased range such as:

This?
